Russia: UN idle while 28 ships with food stuck in Turkish waters

MOSCOW, Apr 13 (PRIME) – The U.N. is inactive, while 28 ships with more than 1 million tonnes of food carried in the framework of the Black Sea Grain Initiative are waiting for a check in Turkey's waters, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"28 ships carrying more than 1 million tonnes of food are waiting for a check in the territorial waters of Turkey,” the ministry said on its website.

“However, the U.N. officials in the joint coordination center responsible for formation of an inspection plan refused to compile a schedule trying to support Ukrainian demands for ship registration in the initiative."

According to the ministry, the Russian delegation asked to put the ships carrying food to the African states or waiting for a check since January on the Ukrainian registration list, but the request was not supported, which led to delays in registrations and inspection.
